Fishing Tip: Do the miles

Fishing advice provided by iFish TV

There are many sayings that I use in my fishing vocabulary. One of my favourites is "do the miles, get the smiles". It basically means that the further you travel, the more fish you will catch.

This beautiful giant trevally was caught on a popper after a fair journey: 100km to the airport from home, then 3000km on a plane, then 2200km on the road, then 80km at sea. I did the miles, hence the smiles.

Whilst this is an extreme example you can use this saying in your day to day fishing. Walk to the next paddock on a trout stream, walk to the next gutter on a surf beach or get up early and head to the reef that is out of reach for most.

The more miles you do, generally the less angling pressure that area will see, and therefore the more smiles it will produce.
