First-time buyers flock to Brisbane

Buyers snap up pre-Xmas RV present and get the jab at busy Queensland show

The Let’s Go Brisbane Caravan and Outdoor Show has been hailed a big success by organisers, with 16,189 punters passing through the gates at the Brisbane Showgrounds over the four-day event held in late-October.

According to Caravanning Queensland, more than 120 people also took the opportunity to get the 'jab' at the pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic organised in conjunction with Queensland Health.

Good crowds at Let's Go Brisbane Show in late-October

“This year was not only a success because of the strong sales and large crowds that we saw, but also because, for the first time ever, we were able to offer visitors the opportunity to get vaccinated against COVID-19," Caravanning Queensland Trade CEO, Jason Plant said.

“This year’s attendance exceeded 2017, 2018 and 2019 visitation, a clear indication the caravan industry continues to thrive."

The Brisbane Show attracted a number of families and first-time RV buyers, including Scott Hopkins who drove almost four hours with his family from Hervey Bay to purchase their first caravan; a Chinese-built, four-berth hybrid model from Stoney Creek.

“We had been to caravanning shows in Maryborough, but nothing like the Let’s Go Brisbane Caravan and Outdoor Sale,” Scott said.

“We went to the event to look at campers and walked away with a Stoney Creek Scout-14+2 hybrid caravan, which we couldn’t be happier with.

“The smile on our kids’ faces when we put the deposit down was worth a million dollars – we’ve already got plans to travel out West and to Fraser Island, but our first family holiday will be to either Rainbow Beach or Monto over Christmas.”

Exhibitors including Burpengary-based the Golf Super Centre, which sells Avan, Golf and Knaus campers, caravans and motorhomes, were also pleased with the strong turn-out.

“We had quite a few orders over the weekend, and especially a strong market for motorhomes, as well as people adapting to smaller caravans and campers,” the Golf Super Centre's Chris Mangifesta said.

“People were a lot more educated about what they wanted, and we saw a real trend for Australian-built RVs, with buyers wanting to know how and where they were made."

The Brisbane show also saw a number of new RV releases, including the Sunshine Coast-built Exceed Campers, and the latest full height range of Vision VX hybrid caravans from Sunseeker.
