First it was Adria and
Bailey, and now Queensland-based Zone RV is the latest manufacturer of lightweight, composite bodied caravans to offer a slide-out model.
However, Zone RV is a bit different in being possibly the first manufacturer to offer a purpose-built off-road van with slide-out lounge, as no serious builder of heavy-duty off-road vans in this country including Kedron, Trakmaster and Bushtracker currently offers a slide-out model.
“It’s the first of its kind from us, and potentially in the caravan market,” Zone RV marketing manager Denise Missen said.
Based on Zone RV’s
Z-20.6 Off-Road, the new model features an 800mm slide-out that like the Bailey, sits flush with the exterior wall when closed.
“The key difference with this slide-out compared to other caravans is the full, flush-mount recessed slide-out,” Missen said.
Designed to cope with punishing off-road use, Zone has adopted a “triple sealing system” for the slide-out to prevent dust as well as water from entering.
However, opting for the slide-out version will add significantly to overall weight as well as the price of Zone’s standard 20ft 6in off-road model.
The estimated Tare weight of 2790kg is around 200kg more than the equivalent spec, non slide-out version. Pricing will also start higher at $130,000, although that will include additional features like the latest Cruisemaster ATX off-road suspension with airbags. The first Zone caravan with slide-out (pictured) is currently being built at the company’s Coolum Beach, Queensland factory, with first production models expected to roll out later this year.
