First Royal Flair campervan goes on display

It's only taken 50 years for one of Australia's oldest caravan manufacturers to finally try its hand at motorhome building

While a Royal Flair motorhome has been kicking around in the head of Royal Flair Caravans' boss Billy Delaras for a while, it's Billy's daughter Rachel that has inspired the creation of its first motorised RV in its 50th year: a twin-berth, full-height ensuite campervan based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van which made its public debut at this week's 2025 Melbourne Leisurefest show at Sandown Racecourse.

Like most young people, caravans are not really Rachel's thing (unlike Billy's son and her brother Peter, who is currently Chief Operations Officer at the Epping, Victoria factory).

However, the idea of helping build a #vanlife-style camper was, and the result is a motorhome fit-out unlike any other on the Aussie market -- and in the same vein as some of Royal Flair's more unique caravan creations.

With pricing of around $180,000 and no model name yet, the first Royal Flair Caravans motorhome is based on a 417 CDI Sprinter 'van, with just some subtle external striping and decals to break up the dark grey exterior paint.

It's a lot different inside though, with plenty of 'wow-factor' throughout the interior fit-out, which includes swivel front seats, a kitchenette, shower and toilet, and a rear dinette that converts to a double bed.

Olive green cabinetry, white weatherboard-style lining on the roof and walls, gold tapware and handles, light timber tabletops and textured grey upholstery, help deliver the latest 'boho chic' look that Rachel was after.

While to help maximise internal space and provide a bigger shower space than you'd normally get in a campervan this size, Royal Flair has come up with a unique, slide-out compartment that pulls out from inside the shower and into the entryway, and includes built-in cupboard storage as well as a slide-out toilet below.

There's also an inside/outside fold-up picnic table that mounts to the side wall of the internal shower slide-out unit when not in use.

Check out the video below for a guide on how it all works...

Otherwise, the twin-berth motorhome comes standard with a 300Ah lithium battery system with 3000W inverter and 400W rooftop solar, Starlink connections, a rooftop air-conditioner, diesel combi space and water heater, 174L compressor fridge/freezer, 23L microwave, a Laveo Dry Flush toilet, 100L fresh and 50L grey water tanks plus a water filter, double glazed windows, acoustic 'sound deadening' insulation, an electric awning, a 24in Smart TV and antenna, and a moulded fibreglass shower.

As the first example, there are likely to be a few tweaks to future versions, such as reducing the depth of the overhead kitchen cabinets to allow more space through the centre of the 'van. While buyers should also be able to add some custom touches, similar to what's available with Royal Flair caravan orders.
