Fire risk for top-end Toyota HiLux
Wiring issue on rear tray cargo roller could cause fire on premium 4x4 dual-cab uteToyota has announced a nationwide recall for almost 700 examples of its high-end, Australian-developed Toyota HiLux Rogue.
Affecting MY20 versions of the premium, 3500kg tow rated 4x4 dual-cab ute sold between November 20, 2020, and April 20, 2021, the recall for 683 Toyota HiLux Rogue vehicles relates to the wiring for the cargo roller on the tray.
The Japanese manufacturer says the power wire for the cargo roller may be routed incorrectly and could chafe against the battery clamp post, which in turn could cause the insulation around the wire to become damaged and lead to a short circuit.
If a short circuit occurs, this may cause a fire and increase the risk of an accident, injury or death, according to Toyota, which is now in the process of contacting affected owners to organise a free inspection and repair.
