Finscan switches up a notch

Plug and play now easier for composite caravans with Finscan’s new wireless control system
Australian RV technology specialist FinScan has released a new wireless switching option for the Nucleus system that eliminates the need for mechanical wall switches and associated wiring.
This will be of particular interest to the growing number of manufacturers employing full composite-walls for caravans and motorhomes, saving substantial time by removing the need to route and wire cables to switch locations in the caravan.
Rather than having to route cables from fuse boxes to light switches, then to the lights, RV manufacturers can simply wire the light directly to the Nucleus power distribution unit.
The wireless switch can be surface mounted anywhere in the caravan or motorhome in its cradle, which allows it to also be removed and used as a remote switch. All light switching from the wireless switch operates in tandem with the Nucleus touchscreen, creating a two way switching operation.
The FinScan Nucleus RV monitoring and control system, is a complete 12V electrical system for caravans and motorhomes, and incorporates a touchscreen for operation and a power distribution module to perform all fusing, switching, battery monitoring and tank monitoring.
All wiring related to the Nucleus system, is wired to the power distribution unit, eliminating extra wiring to switches, fuses, tank systems, and other third-party systems.
The touchscreen is where lights and power are switched, battery data is viewed and tanks can be monitored. Usually mounted in a central location near the entry door, the touchscreen operation provides a single seamless viewing and operation of the various systems on the RV.
Advanced water monitoring
Another advance by FinScan is in the area of level monitoring in water tanks, with the brand’s new PRS-1000 water sensor measuring the water level of RV tanks using the exit hose of the tank – unlike other tank sensors that require drilling, then resealing with silicone.
As well as being a non-intrusive reliable solution for water level sensing, FinScan says the PRS-1000 delivers “ultimate accuracy with a higher resolution”.
Also new from FinScan for 2017 is the MiniTouch 35 3.5-inch bedroom or ensuite touchscreen switch that allows operation of lights, and viewing of battery voltage from the bedroom and ensuite areas of a caravan or RV.
The advantage of this system is that all external switching is eliminated, and the screen can be set up to operate any of the lights in the RV. Wiring is as simple as clicking one cable from the power distribution unit to the MiniTouch 35.
Melbourne’s Retreat Caravans are amongst the many users of the high-tech system and have made it a standard fitting on their latest Hamilton and Daydream luxury models.
Speaking at the recent Queensland Caravan & Touring Supershow in Brisbane, FinScan founder Carlo Khamu said he has a growing number of caravan and motorhome manufacturers who are keen to incorporate the system to respond to increasing customer demand for a higher level of functionality in their caravans.
“People are simply wanting more from their RV,” he said. “As a growing number of people are going off grid, the reliance on easy information about the state of their caravan is critical.”
