Being able to get out into the country with the freedom and independence of your own caravan is one of the best things about travelling in Australia. You can stop almost anywhere and enjoy the local area with all the facilities and comfort of home. You want to have the best caravan you can get for your travels, as well as one that is efficient to tow and can be stored easily back at home. Snowy River has just released the SRP range of four innovative pop top caravans that are compact externally but open up inside to a spacious layout.
There are four pop tops to choose from in the SRP range; from the SRP-18, an 18ft two-berth, the SRP-18F, an 18ft family layout, the SRP-19, a 19ft two berth and finally, the 19ft family model, the SRP-19F.
The key to these well-equipped vans is Snowy River’s innovative new pop top design. There’s no longer the need to heave up the pop top manually with all the energy you can muster as with a conventional pop top; instead the SRP range features an electronically operated roof that raises and lowers at the touch of a button. Not only that, but the roof is made with expandable, double-insulated roof material, and has a clever double-layer skirt to ensure good insulation when you want to keep the temperature as you like it. It also has zippered windows to keep cross flow ventilation when required. The beauty of this powered roof is that it has a manual failsafe mode for peace of mind.
The advantages of a pop top are well known, but Snowy River has capitalised on those by adding even more than the typical improvements over a full-size van. Not only does the pop top offer a lower travel profile for more fuel-efficient towing on a transport stage, but it also permits storage at home in a standard garage. It is also lighter than an equivalent full-size caravan, with the added benefit to towing fuel efficiency.
Aside from the convenience and ease of the power-operated roof, you also get some really innovative features such as wireless chargers adjacent to the queen-size bed on every model in the SRP range.
The SRP range employs an innovative but now also proven design concept employed by Snowy River across its range. To start with, fibreglass composite body panels enclose a strong yet light box section welded aluminium body frame using Snowy’s trademarked ALOPEX construction method. Added to this is XPS foam insulation, with a generous 32mm thickness in the side walls and 42mm floor insulation.
The Duragal steel chassis has six-inch A-frame beams and chassis rails are four inch, while the SRP range all have black checker plate across the front and sides and a strut-assist exterior front window blind.
The opener in the range is the SRP-18 an 18ft small pop top caravan that offers generous living space dimensions even though a compact van externally. This layout offers the simplicity and space efficiency of a north-south island queen bed, a galley kitchen, L-shaped lounge and rear ensuite.
Next up is the SRP-18F, also an 18ft pop top caravan, but this time with the additional features of two bunks, making this four-berth van the smallest family van in the Snowy River range. With an east-west master bed up front, an ensuite bathroom, rear double bunks, galley kitchen and a family-sized L-shaped lounge, the SRP-18F has all the ingredients ready to go for a great family driving holiday.
The SRP-19 is a 19ft pop top two-berth caravan with a separate shower and toilet that goes big on features while keeping small in overall size. The SRP-19 features a north-south island queen bed, a large galley kitchen, spacious L-shaped lounge and the rear ensuite is a good size, extending the full width at the rear.
The SRP-19F family 19ft pop top gives you and your family all the space you need with a double bed and two bunks in a layout that starts with an east-west master bed, galley kitchen, L-shaped lounge, double bunks, and an ensuite bathroom. Like the rest of the SRP range, the SRP-19F offers the practicality of a full-sized caravan with the more efficient, easier towing advantages of a pop top.
The SRP range is feature packed, with the inclusions you expect — and some nice-to-have features you might not expect at this price point. There’s lithium battery power and 360kW of solar to keep up the charge, AL-KO torsion suspension, 12-inch electric brakes, an awning and picnic table on the outside, while inside there’s a smart LED TV, microwave, rangehood, fridge/freezer, gas cooker and much more.
Snowy River Caravans takes a great deal of effort to make sure it gets it right, in terms of features, design and packaging with its caravans, and it was no different with the SRP range. The company got feedback from many sources like customers, the community and its own design team to make sure that the design of new pop top range not only advanced the pop top concept but gave buyers exactly what they wanted. This all meant that Snowy River took longer than it normally does to release a van range, because it really wanted to incorporate all feedback in its Research and Development. The results speak for themselves.
