Ultimate no-fluff caravan towing guide released

New Tow like a Girl book aimed at women who want to understand towing without feeling like they need an engineering degree

It was only last year that the 200-page 'Safe Caravan Towing - The Manual' hit the bookshelves, delivering in great detail everything you need to know about how to safely and legally tow a caravan in Australia.

But now there's a simpler and less baffling option for those keen to learn the basics of caravan towing, with a new book called 'Tow Like a Girl' that's being promoted as the "ultimate no-fluff (towing) guide for women".

"If towing rules make you want to cry, rage-slam your handbook, or pretend that a compliance plate doesn’t exist, you’re not alone," explains the Amazon booksite blurb.

Author Krisi Murphy has plenty of industry and personal experience when it comes to towing a 'van, having led Caravanning Queensland's VanSafe educational program in recent years, and also regularly getting out on the road with the family towing an MDC caravan behind a Ford Ranger.

"After more than a decade in the caravan industry, I knew there had to be a better way to explain things," she says. "Tow Like A Girl is my answer. It's a jargon-free, straight-talking book that helps women understand towing terms, weights and setups without needing a degree in mechanical engineering."

Promising no 'tech-splaining', topics covered include towing and weight definitions, real-world towing rig set-ups, and tips on solo hitching, towing, reversing, parking, and general road safety.

There's also some "straight-up advice on what gear you actually need and what’s just bloke bait".

"If it sounds complicated, it’s because it is. But that doesn’t mean you can’t learn it. If I can, you can. And I once towed with the handbrake half on," she writes in the first chapter of the book.

An easy read at just 29 (print) pages in total, Tow Like A Girl: A 'No Nonsense' Guide About Towing and Compliance for Aussie Women is available in Kindle ($8.99) and paperback ($18.64) editions, from the Amazon bookstore.
