Ezytrail Winton 13 2026 Review

Imported 13ft hardtop shapes up as an ideal entry-level touring caravan

Big off-road caravans and rugged hybrids seem to capture all the attention in the caravan market. However, compact on-road 'vans are perhaps more suited to the average caravanner's needs than we think.

Take the latest Winton MK2 model from Melbourne importer Ezytrail, which can be summed up as a wallet-friendly, lightweight and compact full-height caravan that doesn't miss out on too many big 'van features...

Who is the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 aimed at?

The Winton 13 is a great example of how to make caravanning accessible to more people. Priced from $41,990 it's quite affordable in this day and age of high caravan inflation. While its 1600kg ATM makes towing a picnic for any ute on the market, and very achievable with many family SUVs.

The 13ft body size and weight also makes a good entry point for some-one with little towing experience, or nervous about towing a big 'van. And it has all the basics to travel in comfort, including the all-important internal bathroom.

Sure, it won't suit everyone. The Winton model is an on-road tourer not intended for thousands of kilometres of punishing corrugated roads. The small wheels aren’t ideal for potholes, ground clearance is minimal, off-grid capability is limited, and living space is modest. You also have the inconvenience of having to convert the seating into bedding every night.

But who cares? This is a ripper little 'van that can bring the fun of caravanning to many. And if you want to go even smaller and cheaper, Ezytrail have a 10ft version of the Winton as well, priced from $35,990.

What’s the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 like inside?

A 13 foot body is not a lot to work with – I have reviewed many 'vans with more than double the length! Yet Ezytrail has still managed to squeeze in the important stuff.

Like some other compact ensuite 'vans, the key to success is utilising a combination seating/bed configuration. It’s quite clever because the bedding can be set three different ways: twin singles, double bed or king bed, depending on how you shuffle the cushions and a small piece of ply around.

But the real surprise is the day seating configuration, which is in fact a rather large club lounge.

Two petite swinging tables are deployed for dining, with just enough room for a plate and your favourite beverage. You won’t have to move far to reach for that beverage as the little Dometic 75L fridge is right next to the table.

Directly above the fridge is a nice little wardrobe complete with a rail for hanging clothes. If it were my 'van, I would prefer a bunch of shelves to fit a lot more stuff in.

It’s one step from the fridge to the bathroom. As you'd expect, it's a full wet area combination shower, toilet and vanity. But hey, it's all there and ticks the box for many caravan buyers.

The kitchenette has a large single plate induction cooker but you'll need to be plugged into mains power to use it – no inverter in this little cutie.

Positioned at ceiling height above the cooktop is an optional ($300) NCE 20L microwave, and care needs to be taken removing contents to avoid spilling hot food on yourself. The kitchen sink has a flip-up top to provide a bit of bench space.

The compact cabin space should be easy to keep warm with the optional ($1200) 2kW diesel heater.

A feature I often see in Chinese-built 'vans that I really like is the very simple integrated analogue switching panels for the appliances and lighting. You see everything at a glance; much more user-friendly than hunting through some of the big menu-driven screens you get these days on many bigger 'vans!

What’s the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 like outside?

The optional ($2000) external slide-out kitchen makes up for the limitations of the internal kitchen, as cooking outdoors gives you all the space you want.

The two-burner gas cooker also provides some off-grid capability. The trade-off is that you lose half of the tunnel boot storage space. However, there is a nice little front boot for storing hoses, extension cords, etc.

The A-frame-mounted gas bayonet is easy to reach for hooking up the gas cooker, but perhaps a little vulnerable to stone damage (if you do venture on to the gravel). A small shield similar to the one used for the water tap would be a simple solution. There's also a single 4kg gas bottle holder and diesel tank for the heater on the A-frame.

The drop-down picnic table is as big as you find on many larger 'vans, and the user-friendly electric awning is a bonus at this price point.

How is the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 built?

The Winton follows contemporary construction methods with XPS foam filled, fibreglass skinned, sandwich panel walls. The front wall, roof and rear wall are one continuous piece, eliminating joins and potential leak points. The honeycomb composite floor is also one piece.

Most big Aussie 'vans have a 150mm x 50mm chassis, but the scaled-down 100mm x 50mm chassis seems proportionate for this petite offering. It's hot dipped galvanised so should resist the rust too.

Also fit-for-purpose is the independent torsion suspension with shock absorbers, 10in electric drum brakes and 14in alloy wheels, making up the undercarriage.

What’s the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 like off-grid?

You won’t be going deep into the bush with this little on-roader, but it's more than capable of staying off grid or checking into an unpowered site for a few days.

If it’s sunny, the 100W solar panel can top up the 120A lithium battery via a Victron SmartSolar 15A MPPT charger. That should be enough to keep the lights on and the fridge and water pump running.

A Victron 18A DC to DC charger can also help top up the battery while driving. If you need more in reserve, you can option up to 240Ah lithium battery capacity and 200W solar.

The 80L fresh water capacity is underdone compared to bigger 'vans, but you could carry some extra water in the car or 'van. Unfortunately there's no option for a second fresh water tank.

A grey water tank doesn’t come as standard, but can be optioned in.

What is the Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2 like for towing?

A 1352kg tare (with options fitted) and a 1600kg ATM leaves a 248kg payload. If you factor in the 80kg water capacity, you're left with 168kg.

That’s not a lot, but it’s a little 'van designed for easy towing and shorter stays and comes with limited storage capacity, so it shouldn't be a problem for the target buyer.

Being a bitumen touring, caravan park-focused model, there's a good argument anyway for travelling with an empty tank or just a little water, to maximise the available payload.

Electronic stability control (ESC) is not fitted as standard, but trailer sway should be less of an issue depending on the size and weight of the tow vehicle.

Should I buy an Ezytrail Winton 13 MK2?

Ezytrail's Winton 13 clearly isn’t aimed at people with big egos and fat bank accounts. Neither is it equipped for bucket-list-style outback adventures, although I suspect there are a lot of owners of heavy off-road-spec 'vans that never head too far off the beaten track.

It's for people who are clear that they will be sticking predominantly to sealed roads and don't mind staying in caravan parks most of the time. Its size, weight and cost also make it a good choice for caravan newbies, solo travellers or anxious drivers.

Make peace with the fact you'll be messing around with the seating and bedding on a daily basis, and the little 13ft Winton has a lot going for it.
