West Australian premium off-road caravan builder Elross has unleashed its most glamorous toy hauler to date; a tandem axle, 21ft, 4450kg ATM Octane off-grid model that according to the Perth-based manufacturer boasts its "best interior yet".
Best known for its hardcore off-road caravans and heavy-duty hybrids, Elross' latest custom-built Octane Toy Hauler is "meticulously designed for secure vehicle storage and luxurious living," and rides on an in-house fabricated Duragal chassis fitted with Cruisemaser XT airbag suspension, together with a fully insulated, 50mm thick EPS polystyrene and Colourbond steel composite body.
With a Tare weight of 2842kg it boasts a hefty payload of just over 1600kg, but unlike most other locally-built full-size 'toy hauler' caravans, the Elross Octane ECX-21 features side rather than rear entry to its dedicated rear 'garage. It also uses a bottom hinged and 'back-friendly' Lippert door/ramp that Elross says is much easier to lower and raise.
Despite its lightweight construction, the ramp is rated to carry up to 500kg, and there are tie-down rails on the garage floor to help secure two motocross bikes. The toy hauler also features another security door inside the garage that provides a second entry-point to the caravan fit-out, while also keeping the 'dirty' section completely separate from the 'luxury' living area.
Other customer-added options include a rooftop patio for star gazing and spectating, accessed using the rear mounted ladder, and an onside shower outlet for hosing off dirty gear.
The floorplan includes an east-west front queen bed, kitchenette, L-shape lounge/dinette and separate shower and toilet, with the eye-catching 'earthy' decor theme featuring liberal lashings of Italian-look brown leatherette upholstery, timber benchtops and flooring, and black cabinetry with matching black tapware.
On-board appliances include a Safiery induction cooktop (to go with an external slide-out kitchen), 190L Bushman compressor fridge/freezer, MyCoolman rooftop air conditioner, Sirroco fans, a 32in TV and an NCE washer/dryer combo.
While off-grid camping is taken care of with 675W solar (with a fold-out plug-in panel) that feeds a 400Ah lithium battery set-up with a 3000W inverter and Redarc Redvision display. There's also 240 litres' water storage in total.
Other external features include a toolbox, front mesh stone guard, extensive underbody protection and a Carafan 'dust buster', while the customer has also set it up for full time living with some additional storage including overhead cabinetry in the garage.
The Elross ECX-21 Octane dual-axle toy hauler caravan usually starts at $167,990, but the latest optioned up customer van came in at a drive-away price of $181,990.
