Remember the mega-priced EarthRoamer monster-truck motorhome from a couple years’ back?
Based on a Ford F-750 Super Duty 4WD truck powered by a stump-pulling 298kW/1254Nm 6.7-litre turbo-diesel donk, the EarthRoamer XV-HD was priced well into seven figures once a few options were selected.
Well, now the Colorado-based US expedition vehicle specialist has taken the mega-truck motorhome concept a step further, with the release of a new, slightly smaller but no less impressive EarthRoamer LTi model constructed from carbon fibre vacuum infused body panels, among other innovations.
“While most of the RV and expedition vehicle marketplace are still using technologies developed in the 1950s, EarthRoamer has advanced to using vacuum infused, carbon fibre construction.,” explains EarthRoamer on its website.
“All LTi bodies are produced using a Vacuum Infusion Process (VIP) to create and bond two carbon fibre skins to a structural foam core, resulting in a monocoque carbon fibre body that is much stronger and lighter than any traditional RV or overland camper body.”
The new Earthroamer LTi is based on a Ford F-550 4WD truck chassis, powered by a 234kW/1017Nm 6.7-litre V8 turbo-diesel engine matched to a 10-speed auto transmission.
As well as the carbon fibre reinforced body, the new Earthroamer LTi boasts frameless, flush-mount glass windows, digital electric control systems, and multi-colour interior lighting, among other trick features.
A massive on-board power system includes an 11kWh lithium battery bank and 1300W solar panels, dual inverter chargers and an ‘auto-charging’ function that automatically starts the engine if the batteries are running low.
Measuring 8.7m long by 2.4m wide by 3.6m high, and with an impressive 312mm ground clearance, the EarthRoamer LTi also comes with a 360 litre fuel tank, plus 380 litre fresh and 227 litre grey water tanks.
The big off-roader can seat up to six people and accommodate up to four, depending on which of the five different layouts available is chosen. As well as all the usual amenities, buyers can also pick from a range of finishes including maple and teak furniture and trim, Caesarstone, granite or stainless steel kitchen counters, and a wood or tile kitchen backsplash.
The Ford 4WD crew-cab truck is also equipped as standard with heavy-duty off-road hardware including air ride suspension, 41in Continental MPT-81 tyres on military-grade beadlock wheels, LED off-road lighting, and heavy-duty front and rear bumpers with a Warn 16,500-lb winch up front.
Pricing starts at US$590,000 (AUD$855,00), with most American buyers expected to pay up to US$700,000 (AUD $1,016,000) once a few option boxes are ticked.
