Popular in Europe for a number of years, motorised caravan movers are starting to filter onto the Aussie market with various models and styles now available to take the back-breaking work out of positioning your van.
One of the most popular of the various caravan mover types are the motorised devices that attach to the chassis of a caravan and work by a remote control handset, driving the wheels to move the caravan into place. With no jockey wheel modifications or physical effort required, they make manoevering your caravan both safe and easy.
Relatively new to Australia is the e-go caravan mover, which works by utilizing electric motors wired to your caravan’s 12v battery. When engaged the motors drive alloy rollers against the caravan’s tyres.
The motors are neatly concealed beside the caravan’s wheels and are engaged via a simple handle or cordless drill. With remote control in hand, all it takes is a touch of a button to park the caravan.
The e-go’s design also includes a feature called ‘Cross-Actuation’ whereby both motors can be engaged from one side of the caravan; ideal for when your caravan is parked hard up against a wall or in limited access situations.
Made from fully anodized alloy and available for single and twin axle vans, the e-go is also designed to take a beating, and is said to be both waterproof and robust.
It can pull up to 2.5 tonnes on flat ground, and work safely on gradients of up to 1:4 with a weight of up to 2 tonnes.
The e-go comes in two models, priced from $1499, and includes detailed fitting instructions and a two year parts warranty.
The range is distributed in Australia by the Melbourne-based subsidiary of UK caravan and RV accessory manufacturer Purple Line.
