Best known for its range of affordable bush campers and quality off-road accessories, Gloucester, NSW based Drifta is now taking on premium off-road brands including Patriot and Track Trailer with its new upmarket, mid-$40K DOT6 camper.
Released in late-2018, the latest DOT6 tent trailers retain the light, compact, bush-bashing capabilities of Drifta’s original, few frills DOT campers, but come loaded with more of the technology and equipment found on top-end Australian hard-core campers like the Patriot X1.

For the Drifta DOT6 WUHT (Walk Up Hardtop) version, that includes Cruisemaster DO35 hitch and XT airbag suspension with air tank, 120Ah lithium battery system, Redarc’s Redvision TVMS ‘smart’ technology and Fusion stereo.
Other standard features include a homegrown hard-shell roof-top tent with 190mm thick queen size mattress, twin 80 litre water tanks, wrap-around awning, Drifta slide-out kitchen with room for a camp cooker and 60 litre fridge, and swing-out shower tent; the latter two plumbed to a Joolca portable gas hot water unit.

Drifta is also claiming a world-first innovation on the DOT6 WUHT: a roof-top tent that doesn’t require a separate ladder. Instead, Drifta has designed different height step-boxes on the front drawbar to allow safe access by climbing up and entering through the side of the roof top tent.
The DOT6 camper also comes with three LED worklights, 12in electric brakes, 16in CSA alloy wheels with Maxxis mud terrain tyres, while every camper sold includes a laser-cut sidebox plate, with individual build number.

Despite all the inclusions, the DOT6 still comes in at a relatively lightweight 1150kg Tare, with the GTM listed at 1700kg.
The new DOT6 campers retail from $43,500 (there’s also a version with the latest iKamper roof-top tent), but you can easily spend $50,000-plus with the addition of a few desirable options like 300W roof-mounted solar panels, bigger 200Ah lithium battery, Redarc 700W invertor, awning walls, and a bike carrier.
Like all Drifta campers, the DOT6 is built using Australian steel, canvas and other local components, fabricated and assembled at Drifta’s Gloucester factory.
