Just when we thought we'd seen it all when it comes to rooftop tents and slide-ons, along comes the Pickup Mate Wingman X from Wild Land.
Displayed at the 2025 SEMA show in Las Vegas and boasting an innovative double-storey, twin hard shell auto-lift design, the Pickup Mate Wingman X is the latest product from the big Chinese manufacturer of base and roof top tents.

According to the Wild Land website, the Wingman X is designed to mount on the back of a range of pick-up trucks and features a "remote controlled liftable double layer structure, transparent roof and multi-window structure".
The beauty of the lift-up design is that the rear ute tub is left free for the camping gear, with the 'second floor' roof tent specious enough for up to three people. Access to the top bed is directly underneath, via a ladder at the rear of the tub.

Wild Land says the fully automated design incorporates inbuilt safety measures including a safety lock, one-touch power off function, and radar sensors, while the sturdy independent 'Double X' scissor structure is rated to take 300kg.
The hard shell roof tent also gets a sunroof and 30kg rated roof rack, and the two floors can be opened and folded separately. Also included is an integrated rack for mounting a 360-degree awning, awning wall, shower tent and other items. The whole unit weighs around 250kg.

We're not sure if it will be available down under although Wild Land has a couple of Aussie distributors including NSW-based Drifta. If it does go on sale here it's likely to be pricey as it's currently listed online at around US$10,000.
