There are more than a few off-grid caravans and campers that will keep you alive and in good condition for a decent amount of time before the rescuers arrive, if you ever get stuck in the Outback.
But a Washington, USA based manufacturer has gone a step or three further, coming up with a 'doomsday' camper fully equipped for survival in a dystopian, end of world, zombie apocalypse type scenario.
Designed for an 'extinction level event', the bright orange E.L.E off-road pod camper from Mammoth Overland is equipped with all the usual off-grid gear like a big lithium battery and solar set-up, space heater, portable satellite internet and a generator.
But it also comes with a few 'doomsday' accessories including bear spray cannons, a surveillance drone, a cabin air purifier with positive pressure, submarine-style windows to keep out smoke, chemicals or germs, and heated blankets for the water tanks, so the not so lucky owner can deal with all types of outside threats.
Mammoth Overland described its optioned-up E.L.E camper as a '"preppers dream trailer" and if you do need to make a run for it, the off-road camper is further protected by bulletproof glass for the windows and doors, as well as replaceable armour plates on the body.
To access any tools, first aid kit or weapons strapped to the roof rack, there are fold-down side steps to get up there quickly, or a roof hatch that allows quick access to the roof from inside.
The roof rack also serves as an observation deck, with powerful lights on all sides to flood the area if under attack, plus there's a Starlink satellite dish and an aerial for a dual-band ham radio to keep in touch with the good guys, even if they're more than 100km away.
To keep you comfy while you're planning out your next move, the camper also comes with a rooftop air conditioner that runs off the lithium battery system, and surveillance can be carried out from the safety of the cabin using a remote controlled boom with camera attached to the roof rack.
There's also a portable water purifier, while the heated tank blankets ensure a continual supply of fresh water even in sub-zero temperatures.
Due to the sealed cabin there's no through-access from the back like on regular Mammoth Overland campers so you you'll need to don the survival suit in order to cook up a meal on the outside kitchen located under the rear hatch.
Described as a 'mobile command centre', the compact two berth cabin gets a gun rack, a wi-fi router, TV screen and laptop connection to the outside camera, along with a portable weather station and a digital geiger counter to measure outside radiation.
The piece de resistance is a bear spray canister located on both sides of the camper, with an internal rocker switch to activate the spray and ward off both furry and clothed intruders.
"The base model Mammoth Overland Trailer was already extremely cool and capable, but with a 2 inch lift and larger 33 inch mud terrains, the E.L.E towers over the original HV trailer," the American company explained.
"But what's even more impressive is that the trailer was built to withstand the gnarliest of apocalypses. The trailer utilizes submarine doors which provide a sealed cabin which is pressurized with purified air. A drone hatch on the roof deploys a surveillance drone while a 360 boom camera allows you to monitor the përimeter...
No pricing is mentioned for the unique E.L.E camper but the 'aerospace-grade' Mammoth Overland camper range normally starts at US$29,500.
