The Caravan Industry Association of Victoria is calling on all RV owners to get an annual service before hitting the roads this summer.
“Most cars are serviced at least twice a year, but many owners who also have a caravan, camper trailer, motorhome or campervan are often not as diligent about even a yearly recreational vehicle service,” CIA Vic CEO Rob Lucas said.
“A typical part of a service includes a thorough check of a van’s electrical system because of a caravan being often constantly on the move it is possible connections may come loose due to vibrations,” he said.
Another service provided is an inspection of pre-owned vans or camper trailers to ensure that fittings are of the type approved for caravan use.
“Whether a recreational vehicle is regularly used or only a couple of times a year it is important to have a service to ensure the vehicle can be towed and used safely, and with the Christmas holidays approaching now is the ideal time to book in for a service,” he said.
A trained professional can also identify any issues relating to incorrect fitment of gas appliances or wheel imbalance.
The Victorian industry association recently rolled out an
industry-first accreditation program for RV service and repair businesses, designed to improve standards, skills, and customer service levels across the sector.
Currently 24 caravan service and repair outlets across Victoria are participating in the Service Safe accreditation program, which is expected to be adopted by other states and territories.
