Popular Australian caravan manufacturer Coromal has revealed details of its latest and greatest off-road model, the XC 632 Evolution, just days before its first public showing at the NSW Caravan, Camping and Holiday Supershow.
Described as “the future of caravanning” and “a cut above traditionally built caravans”, the 6.32m (body length) tandem axle off-road van features the Perth manufacturer’s latest lighter weight, high tensile FRV off-road chassis along with full body composite construction.
In a video posted on social media, parent company Fleetwood RV’s Executive General Manager, Peter Naylor, said the new hi-tech FRV chassis has been specifically designed for off-road applications and is the ”most advanced chassis available” on the Australian market.
He said the locally designed and manufactured chassis boasts automotive-style features including the use of high tensile 550 grade steel and industrial rivets used in truck chassis. The FRV chassis is “fully plated” and has a black powdercoat finish for durability, while extensive use of cylindrical cut-outs help make it 130kg lighter than Coromal’s standard chassis.
Fully engineered and certified
Designed in conjunction with consulting and automotive engineers, Naylor said the FRV chassis has been engineer certified to ensure “all the strength that you can possibly need in the chassis”, while allowing for some flex in the A-frame when driving off-road.
The FRV chassis rides on Sport X Rally trailing arm coil suspension, which is the latest development in Fleetwood RV’s long-running Ezy-Tow independent suspension range. What looks like an Al-Ko off-road hitch is also shown, attached to a bold, red painted front assembly.
Also matched to the FRV chassis is the Australian manufacturer’s latest ‘Future Tech’ laminated body panel construction, which utilises a “patented aluminium fixing system” not unlike that offered by Zone RV and Bailey.
To demonstrate the integral strength of the timber-free, monocoque-style construction, Coromal has released another video showing a Windsor Hybrid being lowered on to the one-piece laminated roof.
The new FRV chassis and composite construction are likely to be rolled out on other Coromal and Windsor models, including the latest Hybrid and Silhouette campers.
