Cub delivers baby bonus
New family-friendly, forward-fold Frontier off-road camper breaks coverNSW’s Cub Campers has unveiled the production version of its new forward-fold hard-floor off-road camper at this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest.
The latest version has grown in size from the prototype displayed at the Sydney Supershow in April, resulting in more room inside for growing families.
At 2.5m long by 1.95m wide, the body dimensions (closed) are now closer to Cub’s rear-fold Escape model. Overall towing length is 5.85m, and it has a Tare weight of 1300kg, 168kg ball weight and 1800kg ATM.
With a painted steel body finished in Midnight Blue, and dark navy Wax Converters canvas with bright red highlights, the new Frontier hard-floor camper comes standard with Cub’s own independent suspension with coil springs and shocks, although the model on display at Sandown Racecourse was fitted with Al-Ko Enduro suspension.
Other standard features on the Frontier include 16in black steel wheels and all-terrain tyres, a rear-mounted spare wheel, 12in electric brakes, off-road coupling, stone guard, two 4kg gas bottles and a wind-up winch.
The fixed bed with coil-spring mattress measures 1.96m x 1.5m, while the fixed lounge/dinette converts to another double bed, to create sleeping for up to four adults.
Storage is taken care of with compartments under the seats and bed, with five external lockers in total, including one with a fridge slide (the 85 litre fridge is a $1599 option).
There’s also room for a second fridge slide in a locker on the passenger side, while another external locker holds electrical equipment including the standard 100Ah battery, 25 amp battery charger, solar charger and water guage.
A slide-out stainless steel kitchen incorporates a three burner cooktop, sink, drawer and fold-out work bench.
Other standard features include an awning with front and side walls and aluminium poles, 100 litre water tank, 12V water pump and a marine-style hand pump on the drawbar.
Some of the options available include a second battery and portable hot water system.
Cub Campers claims the Frontier, which goes into production next month, is one of the quickest and easiest of all Cub’s wind-up models to set up. It also has the advantage of occupying less space when set up than some other Cub models as well as offering a more versatile indoor living space.
It’s already proving a hit with young families, with one father of three young children at Melbourne Leisurefest quick to snap up the ‘show special’ offer of $29,990, a saving of $4000 over the RRP of $33,990.
