Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, Sydney’s Cub Campers has come out on the front foot with a new, revised range including updated and in some cases cheaper, rear-fold and front-fold camper models.
To stay competitive with imported rivals, Cub has managed to drop the starting price of the 2018 edition of its popular, lightweight off-road Brumby to $27,990, while including all the essential standard features like 100Ah battery and battery chargers, a new two-burner Smev stove and stainless steel sink, LED bedside lighting, solar input, two 4kg gas bottles, two 20L jerry can holders, and an 80L water tank with 12V water pump.
While still keeping the price under $30,000, buyers can choose an optional Adventure Pack that costs $1300 and bundles a second battery and 80L water tank, spare wheel bracket and utility rack upgrade.
Like other Cub Campers the Brumby is built with Australian steel and canvas, and backed by five-year warranty on the canvas, independent suspension and chassis.
For 2018, Cub has also simplified its range by reducing the number of models from 12 to seven, although that number could rise again with some new ‘anniversary’ models expected later this year.
With prices starting from $17,250, the 2018 range now includes five hard-floor tent trailers (the 2.2m long Weekender, Explorer and Brumby and 2.5m long Traveller and Escape).
There’s also the deep-sided, 3.2m long, rear-fold Longreach off-road model from $31,990 and the relatively new forward-fold Frontier four-berth family model, which Cub claims is the only forward-fold camper built down under and now comes with extras like a luggage rack and new-look interior and exterior, for a slight price rise to $35,990.
