Cub Campers unveils range-topping Supavan Stockman

Cub Campers has responded to requests for a better-equipped, more spacious hard-floor camper trailer by announcing a new, range-topping model at this year’s NSW Caravan, Camping, RV & Holiday Supershow.

Described as providing “luxury camping in a rugged high end off road camper trailer”, the new Supavan Stockman flip-top camper has been created in response to customer demand for a bigger kitchen and more storage space than provided by any of the NSW manufacturer’s existing on- or off-road models, according to Cub Campers’ general manager Russell Wood.

Wood said the new high-sided, off-road camper, displayed in prototype form at the show, combines elements of existing Cub Camper models in order to create more space for storage and additional features.

“This is actually a Supamatic body with raised walls and a nosecone, but it’s all been put in the one module,” he explained.

“The floor section is similar to a Supamatic, and the concept is obviously quite similar to a Spacevan, but we wanted something a little bit shorter (for) a tighter departure angle.”

Priced from $49,990 towaway, the Supavan Stockman is expected to be not only the most expensive but the heaviest model in Cub Campers’ extensive range when it goes on sale in September.

Wood said the production version should weigh around 150-200kg more than the 1180kg Spaceman Drover, currently Cub’s heaviest model.

“This is a prototype, so as soon as the show is over we’re making a few other modifications and expect to get the weight down to just under 1300kg (with) a payload of about 500kg,” he said.

Adding to the bulk is an impressive new stainless steel, slide-out kitchen which Wood says takes “storage in a camper trailer to a new level”.

Designed and built in-house at Cub Campers' North Rocks, NSW factory, it incorporates two large benchtops with three-burner cooktop and sink/tap on one side (both with lids) and nine, slide-out drawers in total.

More storage space can be found in the large front, checkerplate-covered boot, and under the lift-up, queen sized bed inside. The interior also includes a bedside locker, small cupboard and 110 litre Dometic fridge.

Designed to be self-contained for extended off-road travel, the Supavan Stockman will come standard with a 120 litre water tank (with capacity for another 80 litres) and hot water system, two 100aH deep cycle batteries and battery management system, LED lighting, outside shower unit, and two gas bottles.

A range of options including a slide-out fridge and barbeque and two single beds in lieu of the double, will also be available.

Claimed to offer “outstanding offroad performance”, the Supavan should come with all the usual Cub Camper features designed for tough conditions, including galvanized chassis,  Ezy-Wind system, over-ride brakes, independent coil suspension, and offroad hitch.

Like all Cub Campers it will undergo rigorous testing at the company’s proving ground in the NSW Southern Highlands.

Established in 1968, Cub Campers is one of Australia’s biggest manufacturers of hard-floor camper trailers, building up to 800 campers a year at its Sydney factory.
