Crusader launches less bulky Excalibur Orion

Smaller, lighter 19ft 6in semi-off road luxury 'van delivers close to one tonne payload

Melbourne's Crusader Caravans has added a new 19ft 6in 'streamlined' variant to its high-spec Excalibur semi off-road touring range, that should be of great interest to buyers who like to load up big on their caravan adventures...

Crusader says the new Excalibur Orion floorplan was introduced in response to customers requesting a smaller, lighter variant in the luxury 21ft-23ft Excalibur model range.

"The Excalibur Orion was designed in direct response to feedback from customers who loved the Excalibur but were looking for a more tow-friendly option," the high-volume Melbourne manufacturer said on social media.

"(The new 'van) combines premium comfort with semi off-road capability, making it the perfect travel companion for sealed roads, campgrounds, and light off-road adventures."

A new Excalibur Orion currently for sale at Crusader's South Australian dealer has a Tare weight of 2596kg and 3500kg ATM, and a 116kg ball weight at Tare. That's more than 200kg lighter when unloaded than the 21ft 3in Excalibur Duke or Nobleman variants, while also delivering a greater payload of 904kg.

Riding on Tuffride independent coil suspension and with a Cruisemaster DO-35 hitch, the 19ft 6in Excalibur Orion gets all the usual Excalibur features including a 300Ah lithium battery system with 600W rooftop solar, wireless rear view camera, 27in Smart TV, 220L fresh water/110L grey water capacity, instant hot water, innerspring queen mattress and padded headboard, 274L compressor fridge, 4kg washing machine, rooftop air conditioner, and a microwave, oven and gas/induction cooking.

It features a luxury couple's layout with north-south queen bed, cafe dinette and a full width rear ensuite, and is priced at $121,300 tow-away from the Cameron Caravans dealer.
