With build-quality a concern for many caravan buyers, Melbourne’s Crusader Caravans has taken the bold step of promoting all its latest models as "quality assured" caravans built to "stand the test of time".
A shiny gold and purple ‘Quality Assured’ badge was affixed on the outside of all new 2020-model Crusader caravans displayed at the recent Bendigo Leisurefest show in Victoria; alongside other 'consumer guarantee' stick-ons including RVMAP ‘seal of approval’ and '2019 Manufacturer of the Year' emblems.
According to Crusader's latest sales brochure, there are nine parts to the QA process undertaken at the Melbourne factory and dealerships including quality control checks at each production stage, along with a ‘final factory QA’, and ‘white glove sign-off’.
The locally-built caravans are also subject to a ‘dispatch checklist’, ‘dealer POI checklist’, and ‘hand-over checklist’, with final feedback obtained from buyers via a ‘satisfaction survey'.
“We have a comprehensive QA system at the factory, in fact over the whole supply chain,” Crusader Caravans' Sales and Marketing Manager Max Mayo told caravancampingsales.
“Our quality systems are one of the reasons as to why we won the Manufacturer of the Year award for 2019.”
Crusader's marketing material also states that “each Crusader caravan undergoes stringent quality checks all the way through the manufacturing process and delivery to you to ensure a trouble free and enjoyable caravanning experience.
“However should an issue arise, Crusader warranty and that of our suppliers, together with our dealer network are all there to assist.
“So confident are we that our caravans will stand the test of time, Crusader offers a two year factory backed national warranty on all our caravans."
The 18-year old caravan builder, which was rescued by new owners in 2016, also claims that “the workmanship carried out by Crusader is second to none”.
The latest Crusader caravans are also backed by a five year structural warranty, and potential buyers are encouraged to "see the factory in operation" via weekly tours of the Epping, Victoria production facility that are open to the public.
Crusader was awarded the 2019 Manufacturer of the Year by the Caravan Industry Association – Victoria in July for a range of factors including “quality systems, innovation, after-sales support and total adherence to safety and manufacturing regulation.”
Crusader is also one of around 70 Australian RV manufacturers to use the RVMAP ‘seal of approval’ as part of an industry compliance and accreditation program run by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.
With pricing from $30,790 to $103,790 (tow-away Victoria), Crusader’s 2020-model range consists of five main models and 28 standard layouts.
Crusader's Excalibur, XCountry, Musketeer and Lifechanger models are full-height caravans available in touring, semi-off road and off-road specification. They're constructed with timber frames, with ribbed or smooth aluminium sides and and one-piece sandwich panels for the roof and floor.
The Lifechanger (named after a charity supported by Crusader) is a new entry level model priced from $55,590, while the full composite Chameleon hybrid ‘box’ camper is available in a variety of configurations.
