Crazy collapsible caravan coming

Innovative French BeauEr 3X to swell tiny caravan ranks down under
The world’s funkiest caravan, the collapsible and colourful French-made BeauEr 3X, will be turning heads in Australian caravan parks by the end of the year.
Ironically, the telescopic tiddler – which expands from a 3.3 metre (11ft) compact able to be towed by a small hatch into a 6.7 metre (22ft) caravan with a shower and toilet in just 20 seconds – is being brought to Australia by the manufacturer of some of Australia’s largest caravans.
Roma, which dates its origins back to 1928, is Australia’s largest custom manufacturer of tri-axle monster caravans stretching up to 11 metres in length and is just putting the final touches for a customer on a family bunk van with a lounge that slides out a full 900mm and will have a tare weight of around 3200kg when completed.
The patented concept of the BeauEr 3X is simple: at the twist of a key, telescopic modules extend out of each side of the core trailer, multiplying its size threefold and enlarging its living space from four to 12 square metres – more than some traditional caravans.
Amazingly, without any further manipulation, all the furniture is positioned in place and once closed, the 3X is almost indistinguishable from a small teardrop camper, as all windows and door openings are hidden automatically.
The chief advantage of the 3X however, is that it has the weight of a camper trailer, with a Tare of less than 1000kg and ATM of just 1203kg.
With a market dominated by smaller tow vehicles, European RV manufacturers are constantly forced to come up with interesting ways to shed weight, whether by using lighter materials or utilising clever designs that help maximise space.
Built on an Al-Ko chassis with a polyester body shell, the 3X is also claimed to have good aerodynamics, thanks to its smoothly curved exterior design.
Inside, the four-berth layout comprises a pair of double beds (one formed by the dining room bench), measuring 187.5cm x 137.5cm and 205cm x 137.5cm respectively. Australian buyers will also get a shower, toilet, a 130-litre fridge, sink and gas top, with options including a gas heater and water heater.
Like most niche products, the BeauEr 3X won’t be cheap, with Australian pricing expected around the $50,000 mark, but if size, funky looks and fashion is important to you – as it is for most of the camper’s potential buyers according to Roma’s Mark Palmarini – then this will be affordable for its value as a fashion statement alone!
