Camping couple Richard and Susan Patton will have to wait another six months before getting their hands on Cub Campers’ new ‘Forward Fold’ camper.
The Bidwell, NSW residents won a competition at this year’s NSW Caravan and Camping Supershow to promote the arrival of the first forward-folding, hard-floor camper in Cub’s 48 year history.
They will receive the camper in October when the first Forward Fold campers roll off Cub Campers’ production line at North Rocks, Sydney.
Cub says the Forward Fold camper has the advantage of occupying less space when set up than some of its other models.
“The major difference between our forward fold and our traditional rear fold camper is the smaller footprint,” explained Cub Campers’ national retail manager, Ross Nichols.
“The bed, being the lid… folds forwards not to the rear, over the storage boxes at the front, so the overall length of the trailer doesn’t change from the towing length to the set-up length.
“It allows an internal dining area, which can convert into additional sleeping (while) still retaining a full queen size bed,” he said.
Suitable for couples or small families, the new camper was advertised at the show for $26,990. Standard features include 16in black steel wheels and all-terrain tyres, Al-Ko independent coil suspension with 10in electric brakes, deluxe awning, two winches, off-road hitch, stone guard, jerry can holder, fridge box and slide, 80 litre water tank, and 12V pump.
Also included is an external, slide-out kitchen with sink and two-burner cooker, 1960mm x 1500mm coil spring mattress, two 4kg gas bottles, 100Ah battery and battery management system, LED lighting, and 12/240V/USB power points.
Options include an additional battery, boat loader, hot water system, 85 litre fridge, tropical roof and slide-out pantry and utility tray.
Like other Cub campers, the Forward Fold camper is built with Australian steel and locally-made Dynaproof canvas, and comes with a five warranty for the the canvas as well as chassis and suspension.
The camper features a galvanised chassis supporting a Midnight Blue coloured steel body measuring 2.2m long and 2.0m wide. Towing length is 5.5m, and it has a ball weight of 130kg, Tare of 1080kg and 1450kg ATM.
Cub said it received more than 1600 competition entries at the show, as well as “hundreds of great ideas” about how the production model could be improved from the prototype on display.
