Coromal has finally unveiled its new range of Chinese-built campers
to the public. And the verdict? They look a lot like the more expensive, Aussie-built Silhouette models they’ve replaced...
The West-Australian based manufacturer had the first two examples of its latest, cut-price Navigator range on display at the recent Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Holiday Show at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds.
Like Coromal’s longstanding, Australian-built range of wind-out camper trailers the new Navigator models which are manufactured in China and assembled at Coromal’s Perth factory, feature galvanised steel chassis, Coromal’s fully independent ‘Knee’ leaf spring suspension, one-piece roof and fibreglass sandwich panels.
The most noticeable difference is new exterior and interior styling, including a bold red/orange exterior colour scheme that matches Coromal’s latest range of caravans and pop-tops.
Buyers can choose from eight different upholstery fabrics, including one with a particularly eye-catching metallic thread, but are limited to grey curtains, ‘faux wood grain’ flooring, and shiny black laminated bench tops for the rest of the interior.
The ‘European-style’ furniture is made from 12mm plywood, with ‘positive’ catches for the drawers and cupboards.
However, the new models were missing Coromal’s unique slide-out kitchen, which created more living space inside the camper, as well as polyurethane stone protection at the front.
Priced around $29,000 (towaway, Queensland), the well-equipped, four-berth campers on display had an external body length of 4.25m and towing length of 5.7m. Overall length when erected was 6.7m, while Tare weight was 1440kg and ball weight, 128kg.
Both layouts, called N421 and N422, incorporated two slide-out double beds (one queen-sized), kitchen, dinette and lounge seating.
According to a dealer representative at the show, the new Chinese-built Navigator will replace Coromal’s range-topping, Australian-built, Silhouette range, allowing Coromal to better compete with value-for-money campers from the likes of Jayco and Golf.
The entry-level ‘Family Series’ F400 model remains a part of Coromal’s camper range, while other Navigator models are expected to be introduced soon.
