Just weeks after the first examples arrived in the country, the West Australian distributor of the latest South African-built Conqueror UEV-25 premium hybrid campers has sold its first top-spec 'Kalahari' edition to a cashed-up Alice Springs buyer.
Australian pricing for the 7.3m long (overall), four-berth Conqueror UEV-25 starts at $102,990, but the Northern Territory-bound 'Kalahari' version comes in at $161,990, which includes an impressive 800Ah Victron lithium battery system including three 1600va/70amp inverter/chargers and 1050W roof-top solar.
In conjunction with a Dometic TEC 29 inverter/generator, there's enough off-grid grunt to keep all its appliances including a rooftop air-conditioner, wall-mounted washing machine, microwave and satellite TV running non-stop for hours, if not days on end without plugging into mains power.
The Conqueror Off Grid UEV-25 'Kalahari' also features as standard a diesel-powered Eberspacher hot water/air heater, 90L compressor fridge/freezer, twin hob induction cooktop and 240L fresh/60L grey water storage.
Other features on the gas-free range-topper include a hi-tech off-road independent trailing arm suspension set-up incorporating remote levelling airbags, eight Fox reservoir adjustable shocks, 12in ventilated disc brakes with ceramic pads. and WiTi wireless braking.
The UEV-25 hard-wall campers feature timber-free construction including a powdercoated, hot dipped galvanised chassis with lightweight aluminium composite panels mounted on an aluminium frame. Tare is around 1950kg, with an ATM of 3400kg providing a payload up to 1450kg.
The Conqueror UEV-25 was released in South Africa in early-2019, as a more upmarket and comfortable, caravan-like alternative to Conqueror's more rustic,military-style models.
“(The new UEV models) are still all hybrid off-road vans at just over two metres wide but the front and side slide-outs have hard walls rather than canvas," explained Lance Sharrock from Perth-based importer West Coast Campers and Gear.
Similar in design and concept to the Queensland-built Bruder EXP-6, the Conqueror UEV-25 features a pop-top caravan-style interior layout and decor including a north-south double bed, slide-out dinette that converts to another double bed, basic kitchen with fridge, and a combination shower/toilet.
Cooking is outside on a slide-out kitchen with cooktop and sink, with another separate outside kitchen recess and extra storage options plus a fold-down table on the back of the entry door.
Sharrock said the Conqueror UEV campers are brought in around 50 per cent complete, before final assembly including fitment of suspension, brakes, appliances, hot water unit and awning, is completed locally.
West Coast Campers and Gear also offers the smaller Conqueor UEV-14 and UEV-17 hybrid campers, which start at $66,990, as well as Conqueror's older canvas models.
