Clearview unveils flash new towing mirrors
Second-generation extendable mirrors are better fit for modern tow vehiclesNew, improved versions of the popular Clearview replacement towing mirrors are set to go on sale in Australia in October.
Delivering a more 'factory' look than the first-generation mirrors, which are sometimes criticized for their bulky size and inability to retract fully, the Clearview Next Gen mirrors deliver a more compact shape and packaging (for example, the twin mirror surface area measures 228mm high by 180mm wide compared to 253mm high by 197mm wide on the original).
The New Gen mirrors also stick out less from the vehicle when retracted (351mm wide versus 457mm) although they extend as far out (around 530mm) when fully extended.
"The Next Gen is a smaller mirror which sits on a double slide and slides right back into the vehicle when not towing just like an OEM mirror," Clearview says on its Facebook page. "When you hook your van up you simply slide the mirror head out an impressive 180mm, giving the ultimate vision you need to keep you safe when towing."
A promotional video shows the Clearview Next Gen mirrors being extended manually on two robust-looking sliding arms, although the Next Gen mirrors will be able to replicate any electrical or powered features that are part of the vehicle's original mirrors like heated glass, a power folding mechanism and powered mirror adjustment, Blind Spot Monitoring and indicator repeaters.
Fitted to the latest Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series wagon, Clearview says the "Next Gen mirrors sit only 30mm out than standard 200 Series mirrors when not extended".
Clearview says the Next Gen mirrors will be available for fitment to more than 50 different vehicle types. The Melbourne-based company is currently taking pre-orders, with first deliveries expected in early October.
Pricing is yet to be announced but expect them to be priced towards the upper end of the Clearview mirrors price range, which currently starts around $700 for the basic mirrors to around $1500 or more for versions with all the powered features.
