Entries are rolling in for the National Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade in Adelaide in early 2013, with a fully-restored, South Australian-built 1963 Roadmaster caravan hooked up to a 1967 Ford Cougar (pictured) just one of the eye-catching rigs set to take part in the inaugural event.
The Caravan and Camping Industries Association of SA (CCIASA) hopes to attract more than 100 vintage and classic caravans onto the main arena of the Adelaide Showground at Wayville as part of the 2013 South Australian Caravan, Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show from February 20-24.
The muster of caravans from the pioneering days of the industry will be the first of its type associated with a mainstream caravan show, and recognises the growing interest and participation in old-style caravanning Down Under.
CCIASA Executive Director, Stuart Livingstone, said as a result of many inquiries it had been decided to include classic caravans, defined as those built between 1970 and 1980, with vintage, or pre-1970, units.
“We are also delighted to announce that the award-winning Adelaide Shores Caravan Park at West Beach will be the home base for participants in the National Vintage and Classic Caravan Grand Parade,” he said.
The classic and vintage caravans will stay on grassed and powered sites at an exclusive individual rate of $30 per night, based on a minimum stay of two nights.
“Our intention is for the caravans to travel together from the Adelaide Shores Caravan Park along Anzac Highway to the Adelaide Showgrounds before gathering on the central grass arena during the SA Caravan, Camping and Outdoor Adventure Show,” he said
At this stage the Grand Parade is scheduled for Friday, February 22, however the organisers said this may change to the Saturday if negotiations are successful to accommodate expanded car parking for the extra visitors expected to attend the event.
