Two of Australia's biggest caravan shows will be in 50th anniversary celebration mode this year, with big-ticket give-aways, vintage displays and entry discounts just some of the birthday bonuses to be rolled out at the respective events.
The first ‘Supershow’ to celebrate the ‘big five-oh’ is next month’s NSW Caravan, Camping Holiday Supershow, which will have a special vintage and caravan motorhome display designed to take “people on a trip down memory lane and back to the early days of caravan and camping in Australia," according to organiser the CCIA NSW.
The first Sydney Caravan Show was held at Concord’s Cintra Park and as the event grew it re-located to the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds at Moore Park and then the Yennora Woolsheds, before making its permanent home at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.
After complaints from exhibitors the show was cut back from nine days to six last year, and this year’s show will also offer the 55,000 people expected to attend the chance to win $89,000 worth of prizes in the annual Passport competition, including the major prize of a Bailey Rangerfinder Nebula.
Aside from the 300 exhibitors, there will be face painting, a jumping castle, reptile display and photo booth for the kids, and a Champagne Bar with live music, Iron Jack Bar and Smokehouse, Tents-up Feet-Up Pamper Lounge with mini massage and manicures and daily seminars for the adults.
Among the new model debuts will be a new Sherwood off-road campervan from Suncamper, an all-black 20th anniversary model from Queensland's Trackabout Campers, and a new model range from New Age Caravans – possibly new ‘electrified’ versions of the Road Tripper camper trailer first seen in 2016.
Brisbane birthday bash too
The second 50th birthday bash will take place in Brisbane in June at the Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow, where showgoers will be rewarded with half-price entry tickets (down to $10 for adults and $7.50 concession) and a grand prize in the free-to-enter, annual Passport competition of a Volkswagen V6 Amarok and Cub camper worth more than $100,000.
The show’s organiser, Caravanning Queensland, is also promising that other “big things are planned for this years event”, so stay tuned…
