Chevrolet Silverado fit for towing

With a towing capacity of almost 10 tonnes, Chevrolet's latest imported pick-up makes light work of the biggest caravans

Need something super-sized to tow your big caravan or fifth-wheeler?

Performax International has just opened a new Melbourne dealership, to allow Victorians the chance to test drive the latest, US-imported Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

Imported and re-engineered for Australian Design Rule compliance by Performax, the 2011 Silverado has a towing capacity of 9.8 tonnes and maximum payload of up to 3010kg, making it suitable for hauling heavy fifth-wheel trailers and caravans.

Winner of the 2011 US Motor Trend Truck of the Year, the Silverado 2500 HD features a 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine with 296kW and 1037Nm of torque available from just 1600rpm (up from 272kW and 895Nm on 2010 models).

It runs a six-speed Alison automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system, while the driver and four passengers can ride in spacious comfort in a luxurious, leather-upholstered crew-cabin.

While the Queensland-based, American vehicle importer also offers a range of muscle cars as well as the Ford F-Series truck, it expects the Silverado will attract most attention at the new Melbourne dealership, given its suitability for a range of uses from recreation to heavy-duty towing as well as industries such as construction, farming and mining.

"The Silverado offers an unbeatable package of V8 diesel power, four-wheel drive, up to 10-tonne towing capacity and outstanding comfort for everyone from the mining industry to tradesmen, equestrians, recreational users and grey nomads," said Performax general manager Glenn Soper.

With more than 20 years experience in importing and conversion and ISO 9001 Quality Assured certification, Performax currently produces more than 200 vehicles a year to what it claims are original equipment standards of finish and driveability and with full Australian Design Rule compliance. All are fully warranted.

To help launch the Silverado truck to the Victorian market, V8 Supercar driver Lee Holdsworth will make an appearance at the new Melbourne Performax dealership this Saturday, November 26.

Holdsworth, who drives his own Silverado on the road when not racing a Gary Rogers Motorsport Holden Commodore V8 Supercar, will be on hand from 10am to midday to meet fans and show them around one of the toughest utes for sale in Australia.

Melbourne Performax, part of the Harrison Motoring Group, is located at 143-147 High Street, Melton, adjacent to the family-owned company's Melton Toyota dealership.

For a limited time, customers who purchase a Silverado will receive free side-steps, trailer hitch, tub liner and mud flaps valued at more than $3000.

Silverado prices start at around $109,000, plus on-road costs. See the Performax International website for further details.
