Cheaper Bruder pod camper released

Stripped back new entry-level EXP-4 Overland expedition trailer priced from $89,900

Brisbane's BruderX has released a more affordable version of its entry-level EXP-4 expedition trailer.

Priced at $89,900, or $13,390 less than the standard EXP-4 extreme off-road pod camper, the new EXP-4 Overland misses out on a few features that are standard on the EXP-4 like a diesel space heater while retaining the EXP-4's core attributes that make it one of the most off-road capable compact campers on the market.

Externally, the Overland edition gets 16in steel wheels with mud terrain tyres instead of the 18in alloys fitted to the EXP-4, while it also misses out on other standard EXP-4 features like a built-in external shower, left-hand-side manual canvas awning and Rhino roof racks.

Internally, there's a queen-size rather than king-size mattress, and a gas hot water unit instead of the diesel hot water and space heater fitted standard to the EXP-4.

The EXP-4 Overland does get a bigger internal compressor fridge (80L versus 65L) but misses out on the EXP-4's dual-burner gas cooker.

The EXP-4 Overland also gets a less capable off-grid power system fitted as standard, with a down-sized 100Ah lithium battery system including 200W solar panels and 1000W inverter. It gets the same 100L fresh water tank as the EXP-4 though.

Otherwise, the cheaper Overland variant retains the EXP-4's core features including a fully-sealed 125 x 75mm chassis, epoxy bonded composite body construction and a bespoke multi-link independent air suspension with hydraulic disc brakes, that delivers more than 300mm of wheel travel and 850mm of ground clearance.

The EXP-4 Overland is listed with similar weights to the standard EXP-4 pod trailer, including a 950kg Tare and 1850kg ATM to deliver a payload of 900kg.

As well as the choice of 42 individual options, EXP-4 Overland buyers can also choose from four new Option packs.

These include the $11,500 Family Pack (three roof cross bars, 180-degree free-standing awning, two-person rooftop tent, and a BBQ with mounting point); $4750 Recovery Pack (recovery tracks, winch, twin compressor upgrade, air tank and tyre inflation/deflation kit, Bruder recovery kit); $9500 Adventure Pack (remote water pick-up, twin compressor upgrade, air tank and tyre inflation/deflation kit, platform rack, 180-degree free-standing awning, twin jerry can holders) and the $9500 Electrical Pack (additional 400W solar panel and additional MPPT, upgrade to 200Ah lithium battery and 2000W inverter, portable induction cooktop).
