A children’s charity is set to reap the benefits after one of the sponsors of a special charity caravan won the prize in a raffle, and has decided to sell it and donate all proceeds to the same charity.
An employee of Thetford Australia, which supplied various accessories including a fridge, cooker, and toilet for the one-off United Haven caravan, was recently announced as the winner of the raffle during the recent Melbourne Leisurefest show.
However, not long after Thetford Australia announced it would sell the caravan and add all proceeds of the sale to the nearly $50,000 already raised selling raffle tickets for Kids Under Cover, a charity which helps at-risk young people.??
The caravan was originally valued at $78,990, but the dealership
entrusted with selling the caravan, Ian Grant’s Caravans in Traralgon,
Victoria, is hoping to sell it for around $60,000.
The Caravan Industry Association Victoria, which organised the
competition, had 35,000 raffle tickets to sell at $3 each, and it's
believed Thetford Australia and its employees bought around 100 of
these.
Jointly built by Melbourne manufacturers Royal Flair, Elite, Nova, Van Cruiser, Crusader and G&S Chassis, the 23ft tandem axle, touring caravan blends traditional timber/aluminium construction with the latest interior decor, and a spacious layout designed to easily accommodate a family of five.
Among its many features are a fully-equipped kitchen, large L-shaped lounge/dinette, separate shower and toilet, queen size bed and triple bunks with drop-down TV/DVD players.
