Call it killing two birds with one stone: Raising money for disadvantaged kids while enjoying a 4WD adventure with likeminded enthusiasts in some of Australia’s most remote and picturesque country.
This weekend will see the kick off of the 2013 Golding 'To the Top' 4WD Explorer, the latest 4WD ‘bash’-style charity rally organised by Queensland Variety.
More than 30 4WD vehicles carrying around 70 ‘explorers’ will set off from Cairns on a two-week adventure to Cape York. The convoy will drive thousands of kilometres of challenging 4WD tracks taking in the sights of the Old Telegraph Track and Bloomfield Waterfalls, while raising money for kids in need.
Participants will visit children and schools along the way, driving through towns and communities including Musgrave Station, Weipa, Bramwell Station, Twin Falls, Seisia, Vrilya Point, Chili Beach, Archer River, and Cooktown.
Variety Australia’s Motoring Events Director, Rob Goodwin, said the 2013 Golding ‘To the Top’ 4WD Explorer is set to be an incredible journey, with breath-taking sights and the Variety signature mix of fun and philanthropy.
With Cape York as the ultimate destination, he said the participants are looking forward to the challenges and adventure that this remote part of the country brings, as well as the magnificent national parks and untouched beaches.
“Like all of our events, we strive to strike the perfect balance of a whole lot of fun and adventure while fundraising for the kids,” he said. “Each of our participants is required to raise a donation of at least $5000 to enter.”
Proceeds raised will assist in empowering children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs, to ‘live, laugh and learn’.
