Caravan roll-over caught on camera

Queensland’s chaotic Bruce Highway claims another caravan crash victim

Queensland Police have released a video of a dramatic caravan roll-over that occurred on the chaotic Bruce Highway last week.

Posted as a safety warning to other caravanners, the dash cam footage shows a 4WD towing a Kingdom caravan over-taking on the right side of the road before losing control and flipping over on to its side.

The latest caravan roll-over along the notorious stretch of Queensland bitumen, the single rig crash occurred on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu at approximately 11.55am on July 29.

Excessive speed combined with an unbalanced rig can lead to this type of accident

Senior Constable Mark Siddall from the Forensic Crash Unit said that it was amazing all parties involved only suffered minor cuts and bruises.

“The driver of any vehicle is legally responsible for being safe when towing a caravan,” the Senior Constable warned.

“Complete a few short towing trips at first, gradually increasing the distance travelled before embarking on a long trip.

“This allows you to familiarise yourself with your vehicle and caravan and to understand the feel of the weight of the caravan on the back of your vehicle.”
