Caravan rig conquers Blue Rag track

Spectacular footage of 2500kg family caravan being towed up sky-high Vic High Country track

Move over, The Gall Boys!

Queensland's Sunseeker Caravans are the new king of the caravan mud-slingers, with a two and a half tonne Vision V16 hybrid family caravan from the Sunseeker stable towed by a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series recently conquering some of the Victorian High Country's toughest off-road tracks, including the very steep and spectacular Blue Rag Range Track near Mt Hotham.

Sunseeker Caravans' boss Chris Michel has never been afraid of demonstrating the off-road limits of some his range of heavy-duty Aussie-built caravans, or getting them dirty, and his latest exploits involved dragging the 16ft VH16 pop-top up the very steep, narrow, gravelly, and often rutted Blue Rag Range Track to the sky-high peak -- a tough 'bucket list 'challenge for any single vehicle, let alone a rig measuring close to 12 metres overall and with a combined weight of around five tonnes!

Nothing was stopping the LandCruiser and Vision hybrid in Victoria's High Country!

The slippery summit climb was part of an adventurous four-day trip through the Victorian High Country, with the Sunseeker boss setting off from a customer's rural property in Mansfield before tackling a number of off-road challenges including boggy mud holes, river crossings and tracks blocked with fallen trees.

The pinnacle was reaching the top at the 1726m Blue Rag Trig point which on a fine day offers some of the best 360 degree views of the Victorian High Country.

It's not unusual for small camper trailers to be dragged up the winding 8km Blue Rag goat-track, and the tandem axle Vision luxury family hybrid could be the most luxurious off-road caravan to have made it to the top, with a Tare weight of 2500kg, 7.22m overall length, 2.6m travel height and width of just over 2.0m, according to the Vision RV website.

Sunseeker has released a promo video of the trip, with more spectacular footage to air on the Creek to Coast TV show at 5pm, May 27 in Queensland on Channel 7. Viewers in other states can stream the episode via the 7Plus app.

The actual van that went up the Blue Rag Range Track is set to make an appearance at this year's Queensland Caravan Supershow at the Brisbane Showgrounds from June 6-11, among a large display featuring other Sunseeker, Marvel and Vision vans.

For the first time at the Brisbane Supershow, Sunseeker will also display a range of Melbourne-built Titanium off-road caravans, while a brand-new 2024 range of Marvel off-road caravans will also make their public debut at the show.
