Caravan park offers stay-and-weigh

Many caravan parks these days are installing water parks, jumping pillows, even 200-seat restaurants…

But one forward-thinking park in country NSW has just installed something really useful: a caravan weighbridge.

As more and more caravans and camper trailers are increasingly found to be overweight, the Gundagai Cabins & Tourist Park recently installed a weighbridge, which is available to guests for an additional charge of $28.

Designed to attract more caravanners to the park as well as address safety issues, the park's owners are encouraging 'vanners to “book a site and book a weigh”.

“We have just installed a caravan weighbridge to assist our guests in making sure their van is not overweight,” the park recently announced on its Facebook page.”It's quick, easy and very affordable.. Safety on the roads is very important so we’ve tried to make it convenient whilst travelling.”

The initiative was greeted positively on social media, with more than one person wishing other parks would follow suit.

Another comment was:”Setting this up wouldn’t be cheap. This is a big safety issue and legal issue too. When I leave for my jaunt around Australia, I’ll be calling in for a while.”

One caravanner who has already used the service gave it the thumbs up.

“(It was) so convenient. Just drove in on our way out. Every park should have one,” he said.

The Gundagai Tourist park is already known for offering a number of drive-through undercover ensuite sites, suitable for larger rigs, and is located not far from the popular ‘Dog on the Tuckerbox’ Hume Hwy stop-off
