Most ‘reality TV’ programs take place in exotic locations or high-class establishments, such as top-end resorts or far-flung tropical islands.
But in a move that reflects the growing popularity of caravan holidays, the latest reality cooking show from Channel 7 takes place in a humble caravan park with family vans as the backdrop.
Kicking off this Wednesday night (November 18), Aussie Barbeque Heroes offers up a familiar recipe of unknown but super-keen enthusiasts competing in teams for the major prize, with an eclectic judging panel of experts and celebrities.
The prime time show was shot at the award-winning Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park in Narrabeen, described by Channel 7 as “the quintessential beachside Aussie caravan park", with a backdrop of shiny new caravans, tents, BBQs and tow vehicles supplied by show sponsors including Jayco, Volkswagen, Weber and Ray’s Outdoors.
Among the non-stop cooking puns and over-dramatic 'back' stories, the show promises to serve up some lip smacking dishes as the contestants go to work on a range of bbq appliances from humble gas four burner, open flame and heat bead portable cookers to a wood kamado, charcoal hibachi, and ‘low and slow’ smoker.
Up for grabs to the winning teams is $100,000 in prizes including a new Jayco caravan.
