Visitors to this year’s Melbourne Leisurefest will be able to take along their caravan or RV and get it inspected for free.
The show's organiser, the Caravan Trade Industry Association of Victoria, has teamed up with online forum Everything Caravan & Camping, to offer a series of free RV safety inspections, the first of which will be held at the popular annual caravan show at Sandown Racecourse from October 5-8.
The move follows a similar initiative by fellow state body Caravanning Queensland, which has organized ‘safety days’ at various locations around the Sunshine State over the past three years.
The inspections at Melbourne Leisurefest will take place on October 4 and 5 and the plan is to inspect one caravan every 30 minutes, for a total of 30 vans over the two day period.
All inspections must be pre-booked and confirmed by CIA VIC, and those that miss out will go on a waiting list for the next scheduled safety inspection day.
As part of each inspection, the car and caravan will be weighed and measured, gas connections and electric equipment checked, and towing set-up and overall caravan condition assessed.
Specialists from the Victoria Police, VicRoads, EnergySafe Victoria, Victoria Building Authority, Hayman Reese and Service Safe Accredited Companies will be on hand to offer advice, and no fines or breach notices will be issued as a result of the inspections.
