Cape York guides

You know you'll need a reliable guidebook if you're planning a trip to Cape York, and the choice has just become harder with Hema's Cape York Atlas & Guide joining Ron and Viv Moon's Cape York - An Adventurer's Guide on the bookshop shelves

The 11th edition of Ron and Viv Moon's 288-page guide was released earlier this year, and it continues with the extensive information, track notes and mud maps that have made this a standard reference. It sells for $29.95 from good bookshops and you can also order it through www.guidebooks.com.au

The first edition of Hema's guide has 128 pages that are A4 size and spiral-bound. The general information and track notes are less extensive than what Ron and Viv provide, but they're supplemented by the detail on Hema-standard track maps throughout the text and a complete Cape York atlas in the back. It sells for $29.95 as well, and you can find out more at www.hemamaps.com

Which to choose? Our advice is to get both, and there will be nothing about Cape York that you won't be able to look up.
