Camprite only makes one style of camper, but having a double bed and two singles – plus optional bunks – means it can be used in a variety of ways to suit a couple or family.
The WA company, which has an agent in NSW, manufactures the TL8 offroad camper in the Perth suburb of Wangara and claims the camper is built to withstand the toughest conditions, while making it easy and comfortable for families that want to travel the country with accommodation in tow.
With a starting price of around $23,500, the rugged unit features independent coil suspension and a galvanised box-channel chassis that is lightweight yet strong and corrosion-resistant.
An aluminium checkerplate top provides added protection and the tail light housing folds down to form a set of steps for access.
Camprite’s camper has gas struts to assist with setting up and it is lockable and dust- and waterproof, as is the one metre-long front storage boot.
With a Tare weight of 780kg and an impressive 1300kg aggregate figure, plenty of gear can be taken on trips off the beaten track. With only one model, owners may personalise their unit through a choice of colours in tough, two-pack paint.
The Camprite opens out like a cantilever toolbox, with two single beds folding down to the sides and the double sliding forward over the A-frame, exposing a living area with two padded seats.
“All beds have medium-density foam mattresses and bunks can be fitted over the side beds,” Camprite director Reg Harwood said.
“It takes about five minutes to set up or pack down, and it’s well off the ground to keep occupants safe from creepy crawlies, dirt and mud. The windows are screened and zipped from the inside, and there is plenty of usable floor space when the camper is erected.”
The kitchen, which swings out on the tailgate, has a two- or three-burner cooker, a sink connected to a 60 litre water tank, locker and cutlery hanger and an extension table.
“The kitchen doesn’t need unpacking, which makes it ideal for quick stops or meals on the go. Its easy accessibility will be to everyone’s liking,” Reg said.
“Once erected, our optional annexe provides room for everyone to shelter from the sun or inclement weather.
At Camprite Campers, we have designed our trailers with the rugged terrain of Australia’s vast outback, beaches, forests and mountains in mind.
“The toughness required, and a soft ride that protects your belongings and allows you to get on with driving without being buffeted around, is provided by Camprite’s independent coil suspension.”
The system, which is designed to handle tough terrain and corrugated roads, features parallel bearings, King springs and quality shock absorbers.
Standard features on the unit include electric brakes, a spare wheel with a wind-up bracket, a swing-up jockey wheel, four jerry can holders, two 4kg gas-bottle holders, 12V auxiliary power and an awning.
Summing up
Being an offroad model, the Camprite unit has a flexible Treg coupling, recovery hooks and a stone guard.
Options include annexe walls, 240V connections, a second water tank and a boat rack. Camprite’s camper trailer takes only minutes to erect and should accommodate at least four with ease.
So pack the family into a Camprite and venture into places unknown to normal caravans or motorhomes.
