Camplify heads to UK

Aussie-born, Airbnb-style RV business heads overseas
A peer-to-per caravan rental service started by a husband and wife from Newcastle in 2015, is making its first move into overseas markets by setting up an office in the UK.
With more than 2000 RVs listed, Camplify is one of the biggest online businesses of its type in Australia, essentially providing a website that connects RV owners with potential hirers.
The UK arm will be run by former resort parks manager Christopher Laxen, and will tap into a booming UK market that consists of around 550,000 caravans, 330,000 caravan holiday homes and 205,000 motorhomes.
Camplify Australia boss Justin Hales said the decision to launch its international expansion by looking to the UK first came both because of the size of the market opportunity and the lack of clear competitors, unlike in the US.
“With so many people embracing Camplify’s RV sharing community in Australia, this move seemed a natural fit.  We’re excited to be expanding into the UK marketplace, with European destinations also looking probable later on,” he said.
The expansion for Camplify comes after a cash injection earlier this year, with the start-up selling a 25 percent stake to motorhome rental group Apollo Tourism for $1.75 million.
