The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia will use a $1.1 million government grant to educate RV travelers about road safety and ways to minimize accidents.
Australia’s biggest RV club with around 60,000-plus members, the CMCA said it will use the one-off funding to establish a 3.5-year project “targeting key areas that aim to minimise incidents and encourage consistent and compliant behaviour on the road”.
“The RV Road Safety Awareness project will educate and promote nine core areas including towing, vehicle weight and distribution, speed, overtaking safely, UHF radio communication, rest, roadside services, consumer behaviour and licencing,” the CMCA said on its website.
The club said it will distribute educational and instructive material to RV consumers around Australia designed to promote “improved behaviours on our roads, minimise issues relating to overweight or non-compliant vehicles and provide resourceful material that will be available for years beyond the grant period".
The CMCA will also use the funding to attend RV events and trade shows.
The RV club is one of seven organisations to benefit from the $3.3million Road Safety Awareness and Enablers Fund set up by the Federal Government to tackle the issue of road trauma. Other recipients include the Driver Revivor Program, Australasian College of Road Safety, Australian Road Safety Foundation, Traffic Management Association of Australia, Australasian Road Safety Conference and National Road Safety Week.
