Camp Cooking: Cinnamon donuts

Making donuts in the great outdoors is a whole lot of fun. Here's how to do it...

Cinnamon donuts make a delicious sweet breakfast treat or snack and are easy to make around the campfire. What’s more, they’re popular with both adults and children. I mean, who doesn’t love a donut?

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 3-4 minutes

Equipment: Cast iron pan

Ingredients:

1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pre-made biscuit dough
Vegetable oil

Method:

1.    Build a fire and place your cast iron pan on the grate over the fire

2.    Fill the pan with 1/3 of vegetable oil and heat until oil is shimmering

3.    Toss together the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, set aside

4.    Cut the biscuit dough into the shape of a donut by poking a hole in the centre to form a ring

5.    Skewer the rings on a toasting fork and cook over hot coals. Once one side is browned, flip the ring on the opposite side to cook until golden brown

6.    Let cool on paper towel to help remove grease

7.    Dip the rings into melted butter and then roll in cinnamon sugar

8.    Enjoy!
