The 2021 NSW Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow hit its best-ever attendance record in its 53-year history as punters hungry for an Aussie holiday or a new RV or related accessories stormed through the Rosehill Racecourse gates in large numbers.
After being cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2021 NSW Supershow attracted a daily average of 10,266 showgoers over the six days. in total 61,595 people went though the gates, which was also up 15.7 per cent on the 2019 show.
The largest number turned up this year on the final day, Sunday 18 April, with 15,547 people entering the grounds.
The Supershow’s previous best-ever year attendance was in 2010, when a daily average of 9804 patrons visited over the then nine-day event.
“While people couldn't come last year, it is fantastic that they have returned this year with increased enthusiasm,” Caravan & Camping Industry Association (NSW) CEO Lyndel Grey said.
Due to COVID implications this year, exhibitor numbers were down from 300 in 2019 to 260. Principal among the no-shows was Australia’s largest caravan manufacturer, Jayco which cited a bulging order book, limited display stock and a potential shortage of salespeople as reasons for not fronting the show.
Some RV exhibitors at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse venue reported order banks extending to 12-14 months, while others selling accessories reported demand was strong, with a few running short of stock before the end of the show.
“Our exhibitors were thrilled with the customer engagement with many reporting record sales and strong demand as people looked for products, services and inspiration for their next holiday," Grey said.
“After a year of restricted travel, it's great to see people are keenly embracing the opportunity to plan their next trip.”
Big crowds are also expected at next month's Victorian Caravan Camping and Touring Supershow which has been pushed back to a new timeslot and moved to a different venue in 2021 due to COVID-19.
The four-day Melbourne Supershow runs from May 13-16 at the Sandown Racecourse, with a limited number of tickets only available online.
