If you missed out on tickets for this year’s sold-out Birdsville Big Red Bash from July 5-7, don’t despair.
Midnight Oil, plus many of the highlight artists from the Birdsville event will be appearing in the similar Mundi Mundi Bash that will take part on the Mundi Mundi Plains, 35km outside Broken Hill in New South Wales from August 18-20.
Supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW and organised by those behind the Birdsville event, the Broken Hill Bash is being promoted as an all-ages family-friendly Outback festival.
A major advantage of the Broken Hill Bash over its Birdsville progenitor is that it can be reached on sealed roads, making it easily accessible by any two wheel drive vehicle and regular highway caravans, or motorhomes.
Headlined by Midnight Oil and Jimmy Barnes, other leading Australian artists on the bill include Missy Higgins, Jon Stevens, Kasey Chambers, Daryl Braithwaite, The Black Sorrows, Richard Clapton and Russell Morris.
Situated on the red dirt of the Mundi Mundi Plains with the Barrier Ranges as a backdrop, the site should deliver an authentic Outback experience to attendees, with children and dogs welcome.
While there is camping at the Bash site, historic Broken Hill with its population of around 18,000, has plenty of conventional hotel, motel and caravan park accommodation, along with all the infrastructure and amenities of a major regional historic town.
Most of the camping essentials like toilets, a medical facility, food vendors and limited firewood and ice, will be available at the Bash site, but there isn't any free camping in or around Broken Hill and Silverton, or along the road between Broken Hill and the pop-up town of Mundiville. This means those attending should book their accommodation early.
Those heading to the Bash are also asked to plan an extra day or two at either end of their trip to alliow for traffic, and to bring enough water, food and medical supplies to see them through an unexpected detour or delay.
Bash visitor are also advised to come prepared for winter conditions, as the event is on a plain in the Outback where it can get pretty chilly at night during winter.
