Queensland auto retail giant Bartons has taken over one of Australia’s biggest caravan dealers, in the latest multi-million dollar investment by a car dealer in the booming RV segment.
Bartons Motor Group, which has outlets at Wynnum and Redlands in Brisbane, recently acquired Jayco’s Brisbane Camperland at Tingalpa which underwent a significant redevelopment and makeover in 2019.
“Given that the business was family owned, local and a very similar culture with family values, I felt this was a great fit for Bartons,” Managing Director Mark Beitz said on the Bartons website.
Bartons sells and services a number of auto brands from its Brisbane car dealerships including Chery, Holden, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Subaru, Nissan, GWM Haval, LDV and EV Moto.
It started as a small workshop in Brisbane in 1945 before expanding and becoming one of the largest family-owned dealerships in Queensland. Brisbane Camperland by comparison has been run by the Carnavas family for more than 42 years and currently employs 60 staff and sells around 1250 units annually.
Earlier this year, Melbourne car dealer CD Motor Group opened a new multi-brand RV retail outlet, The Touring Hub, in Melbourne’s north, run by ex-Richmond AFL player, Jake King.
