Boomerang BBQ
Light and compact alternative to bulky campfire cookersOne of the downsides of cooking over an open fire when camping, is that many portable BBQ or fire-pit products on the market are heavy and bulky.
Often made of cast iron, they can be a chore to carry and take up valuable space and payload in your vehicle or camper.
However, now there’s a lighter and more compact campfire cooking alternative that’s small enough to permanently store in the back of your car.
Made from hard-wearing surgical grade 315 stainless steel and aluminium, the Boomerang BBQ weighs as little as 1.7kg and folds down almost flat for packing.
The original design for the Boomerang BBQ was created by adventurer John Carr in 1958, but the latest version has many improvements including a neater, fold-down design.
Designed to be hammered into slopes and various ground surfaces, the cooker works with either a charcoal or wood fire on the ground or over a fire pit.
It's adjustable for height, and the 330mm x 330mm cooking surface is big enough to char-grill up to eight steaks or 24 sausages. When finished it folds down to 330mm x 330mm x 25mm and packs away in its own carry bag.
Set up (and pack up) time is just 30 seconds, according to the company, although that doesn't allow for any cleaning.
The BBQ can also be attached to the Boomerang Firepit, which is of similar construction, weighs 4.4kg and packs down to a thickness of 30mm.
All the products are backed by a five year warranty, with prices for the basic Boomerang BBQ kit starting at $189, while the Boomerang Fire Pit costs $249. There's also some package deals to save money if you're buying both.
