We’ve seen self-inflatable mattresses and more recently, self-inflatable tents. But now Australia is set to experience the first self-inflatable camper trailer with the expected arrival in early-2017 of the new Air Opus camper.
Recently unveiled at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany as well as the UK’s NEC Motorhome and Caravan Show, the Air Opus is based on the original Opus dual-fold camper but utilises the latest Air Pole technology so that the main tent structure is inflated rather than manually erected using traditional poles. The Air Opus is fitted with an electric pump, with a switch activated to pump up the air tubes (see video below for a demonstration). According to Opus the roof and canvas walls inflate in around 90 seconds, and a valve is released to deflate the air poles when packing up.
Other advantages of the Air Pole technology is that it saves space inside the camper compared to the current pole version, and Opus says it also reduces total set-up time from 15 minutes to five.
Opus recently released new tougher, off-road versions of the colourful, lightweight camper for the Australian market, and it’s believed these will be available with the air poles sometime in 2017. The first inflatable Opus camper is expected to land in Australia before the end of the year.
