Road fatalities related to reckless driving together with the overweight caravan epidemic has prompted the organisers of a Queensland caravan show to shine the spotlight on road safety during the annual three-day event.
Caravanning Queensland said a number of free weight and towing masterclasses will run throughout the 2023 Let’s Go Sunshine Coast Caravan & Outdoor Expo, partly in response to the tragic loss of 23 lives on Sunshine Coast roads as a result of reckless driving in 2022.
The thrice-daily sessions conducted by experts including Jeff Palmer (Tow-Ed), Gary Gardiner (Total Towing Setups) and Dave Lewis (Weightcheck), are also in response to Queensland Police statistics that cite nine out of 10 vehicles towing caravans exceeding their weight limit.
“There is no better time to visit the Sunshine Coast Caravan and Outdoor Expo and attend the free Weight and Towing Masterclasses to educate themselves on safe caravanning practices to head off on their next holiday adventures safely, compliantly, and confidently,” Caravanning Queensland CEO Jason Plant said.
Other show highlights this year include the attendance of around 90 caravan and camping-related exhibitors, along with live demonstrations from the Walkabout Working Dogs, and outdoor classes by bush cook Ranger Nick.
Show visitors will also get the chance to win a five-night stay in an unpowered waterfront campsite for up to four people at the Habitat Noosa Everglades Eco Camp, valued at $470.
