Black Series unleashes tough new hybrids

New compact off-road pop-top and auto-erecting family camper from budget brand

Big-selling RV importer Black Series has ripped the covers off two new off-road hybrid pop-top models, aimed at cost-conscious couples and young families wanting to get well off the bitumen.

Resplendent in black, gold and red ‘14th Anniversary Edition’ exterior colours, the new Black Series HQ14 Hybrid is a single axle, hard-wall pop-top caravan featuring hot dipped galvanised chassis and aluminium body construction, independent trailing arm coil suspension, 16in black alloys and mud terrain tyres, 12in electric brakes, a DO-35 coupling and ARK jockey wheel.

The compact, two-berth interior layout includes a north-south queen bed, dinette/lounge with stitched leather upholstery and a fold-away table, and a full width rear ensuite with separate fibreglass shower enclosure, cassette toilet and ceramic hand basin.

Cooking is outside on a slide-out kitchen with a sink and three burner cooktop, near a slide-out for a portable fridge. Storage options include various external lockers and a large internal robe.

The new Black Series HQ14 Hybrid also comes standard with a tri-lock security door, roof-top air conditioner, instant hot water unit, Bluetooth audio system with internal/external speakers, 24in TV/DVD and antenna, hot/cold external shower, two 9kg gas bottles, a wind-out awning, dual spare wheels and two jerry can holders.

Also included is a twin 100Ah AGM battery system with two 150W rooftop solar panels and 2000W inverter, along with 260 litre fresh water and 120 litre grey water capacity.

The HQ14 Hybrid measures 6.6m long and 2.1m wide overall, 2.0m high when travelling, and has a 1900kg Tare and 2600kg ATM.

Joining Black Series budget-priced camper range, the new four-berth Phoenix Hybrid promises easy set-up with a power-operated pop-top that raises the canvas roof section at the flick of a switch.

The cosy internal layout includes a north-south 1660mm x 2000mm double bed, a leather covered L-shape lounge/dinette/bed with removable table and an elevated, fixed single bed with safety railing.

The off-road camper features a galvanised chassis with independent trailing arm coil suspension, along with 12in electric brakes, two 9kg gas bottles, jerry can holders, a wind-up jockey wheel, dual spare wheels, and a single 100Ah battery system.

Cooking is outside on a slide-out kitchen with sink and gas cooktop, with external compartments for a fridge and generator.

Sleeping for up to four in new Phoenix Hybrid

The new Phoenix Hybrid measures 6.2m long and 2.2m wide overall, with a travel height of 2.0m, open height of 2.6m, Tare of 1900kg and 2600kg ATM.

Pricing and full specifications of the new hybrids are expected to be available on the Black Series website in late-March.
